Sewing machine cover pattern is necessary to protect a sewing machine from outside dust and dirt and keep it running smoothly for a long time. Box covers that come with sewing machines are the most eye-catching and not easy to use. So, make your sewing cover with a fabric that matches your design.

How to make a sewing machine cover pattern with handle slot:
This time I will show you a complete story of my sewing machine cover through this post. Here I will highlight machines my the measurement of my sewing machine to the end of making a sewing machine cover. For your convenience, I will try to present all the pictures one by one in this post.
How will measure my sewing machine:
I’ll just grab my machine. Now I will measure my sewing machine’s length or height, width, and depth with measuring tape or measuring scale.
Length or Height:
I took my measuring tape and took it to the machine. I kept my tape Perpendicular for getting the height. And I measured the height of my sewing machine and got 10 inches. Then I wrote down the measurement of getting height in a notebook.
In the same way, I again placed my measuring tape along the machine’s width and measured it. This time, I found the width of my sewing machine to be 16 inches. I wrote it down again as before.
I rotated my sewing machine to the side. I grabbed measuring tape again and measured the depth of the sewing machine. So, I got 7 inches as the depth of my sewing machine. I wrote it down back as before in my notebook.
When you have finished measuring the sewing machine, add 1 inch to each measurement. When we start sewing, some clothes will exclude. So, we will work with 1 or 2 inches more to not get smaller later.
How to cut the fabric for making sewing machine cover pattern:
Front and back pieces of fabric:
Now, I need to cut the fabric for the outside. I will need to cut two parts to the size of the front and back. So, I need to cut two pieces to the size of the front pocket and side pocket. I have to take 17 inches wide and 11 inches tall.
Fabric for pocket:
Pockets are most important for sewing machine cover. It helps you to carry the other components of the sewing machine easily. I have to take 17 inches wide and 6 inches tall. These pieces of fabric will use for both front and back.
I need to cut one piece for the top. I have to cut a part whose dimensions will be 17 by 8 inches.
Moreover, I have to cut two pieces on both sides. I have to take 11 inches wide and 8 inches long.
Bias Piping or tape:
I do everything to lines. So, it nicely lines for my sewing machine cover. Now I am going to put some lace bias tape straight across the top. You could also finish that off with a piece of ribbon or simply sew it in the topstitch. If you don’t know how to make bias tape or don’t want to buy bias tape, you can read our bias tape post.
Now, I need to cut one piece of fabric. It is merely a piece of fabric 4 inches in width and 7 inches long. You can make that bigger or smaller if you want to.
How does sew a sewing machine cover pattern:
Now I will show you step by step how to sew my machine cover. This step is the most vital step to make the cover of a sewing machine. So, follow this process well with your mind. Let’s start sewing.
Sew Process for sewing machine cover pattern:
First of all, I will take the part which has cut 17 by 6 inches. And I will put a lace along the width just above the section of this fabric.
Now I will hold this fabric nicely and place it well under the needle of the machine. Then I will start the sewing machine and sew the fabric carefully.
When the stitching is done, I will invert part of my fabric and fold the fabric used for the piping and sew it again. Our first part is over. Now we will move on to the next process.
Now I will take the piece which was cut in 17 by 11inches dimension. The part that I sewed. I will place it on this piece. Then I will put the two pieces together and start stitching on the round sides.
This time, I will mark the top of the sewn fabric three times along the width. I will mark the first two times as 5 inches, and then the last one I will mark as 3 inches. After marking, I will now draw three lines from top to bottom. Now I will stitch these lines with a sewing machine.
Now I will keep the sewn fabric. Then I will keep the piece which was cut 17 inches wide and 8 inches long. You should remember, that piece will be taken upside down while placing on the stitching fabric. Now I will sew this piece.
After finishing stitching, I will take another piece in which I was cut 16 inches wide and 11 inches long. This piece keeps on the stitching fabric just like before. I will keep the part correctly and stitch it as before.
When I finish the stitch, I will invert the total fabric. And I will fix the stitched place again by sewing from the inside so that the stitches look good and are sturdy.
Creating center and stitching:
Do you remember? I cut two pieces, which were 11 inches wide and 6 inches long. Yes, I’m talking about those two pieces. Now I will take those two pieces and fold them and mark their center. At the same time, I will wrap the stitching fabric and mark its center.
First, I will take a piece, and then I will start sewing with the center. Remember, combine the center of both fabrics, then start sewing. You should keep the stitching fabric at the front side and keep the piece upside down. Then you should begin to sew the pieces with the stitching fabric.
Stitching round Process:
Now I will start sewing from the marked place of yellow color. And I will finish stitching up to the marked position of black color.
This time, I will turn the piece and start to stitch straight with the fabric. And I will sew in the same way till the end. When I have finished the stitching, I will separate the fabric from the thread of the needle.
Similarly, I will stitch the end of the fabric straight with the other part of the piece. After I finish the other part, I have to sew the second piece by repeating the same process. If both sides stitch correctly, we will now invert the entire embroidered fabric.
Attach bias tape or piping:
We were taking some lace of fabric. That is what I will now attach to the bottom of the cover of our sewing machine. Just fold the lace nicely and start stitching it around the fabric. If stitching has finished, now turn the lace from the inside out and bring it out. And fold the lace and sew it nicely.
Are you remembering? I had cut a piece of fabric for creating a handle. Yes, I tell you about that. Now I’ll make a handle of sewing machine cover. I’ve to take a piece of fabric.
And I’ll take the piece of fabric from two sides in the middle. Now I will stitch it excellently. This time, I will attach this stitching piece to the cover of the sewing machine. You can do this from the beginning if you want.
